In the U.S. Open painting, I threw together imagery I found of Naomi Osaka’s entourage. As the crowd comes in and out of focus, the viewer can make their own interpretations of the work.
In this painting, I continued to layer in personal details. I added the ying-yang symbol because I’ve been reading a book on Chinese Herbal Medicine and am committed to creating balance in my own life. Here you can also see the addition of some words. The act of painting text creates a different speed than other kinds of brushstrokes. The effect is more graphic and flat but also very much a part of our every day visual experience.
