The original image is of David Blaine, the Magician, being rescued after a stunt gone wrong. The stunt was Blaine attempting to beat the world record of staying underwater for 8 minutes, handcuffed and chained. He originally refused the help of divers, but would have died otherwise. I was drawn to this image because it centers around the martyr figure (Blaine), but also features the guardians (the divers). It was both reminiscent of a baptism and a stupid teenage prank, and that dichotomy was really interesting to me: how both can exist within one scene.
