One of my first experiences meeting an artist was in high school when I met a potter through my girlfriend at the time. Seeing a person so dedicated and involved in the making of a singular object was eye-opening. The functional aspect, whether decorative or utilitarian, also drew me to pottery. I have some experience and I find the processes very similar to painting as in both cases the artist builds from raw material in layers. Pottery making, as seen in this picture, is a collective studio practice, which requires focus, technique and a relationship to touch.
