Two works that portray a premonition of bad things to come, in the form of a black cloud. One week after these works were made, the Iraqi army invaded Kuwait.

The invasion lasted for seven months, wreaking havoc and atrocity. Al-Baqsami lived through this entire period in Kuwait with her family, experiencing the trauma of full-scale war for the first time. As a means to escape the daily
horrors she was witnessing, she locked herself in her home and created a total of 85 artworks. Impressions of violence and tragedy become very present in her paintings during this time. In addition, she begins to use symbolism
heavily, in order to avoid persecution by the invading forces. Her figures transform into pale, mummy-like characters, always without hair. Their eyes are hollowed out to reveal a sense of despair and loss.
