After studying in Moscow and later moving to Zaire and Senegal in the early 1980s, Al-Baqsami began using techniques she learned during her time in Russia with motifs that reflected her Arab heritage from Kuwait. Here is one of her early monochrome linocut prints from that period that she made while still living in Africa. Reflecting her nostalgia of her homeland and her people, she attempted to portray a female figure in her traditional Burqa face covering surrounded by palms, a familiar sight that she longs to see again.
