This painting is based off of a NY Times clipping that I saved from when I was a paintmaker. I was drawn to this image of Jesus being removed from the cross because it is both a very familiar image being raised catholic, but it also shows the weight that is beared by those who live on after a loved one has died. The figure is literally carrying the burden of grief.
